Facilitation of the PROTEGE coastal fisheries capitalization workshop.
- Client: Pacific Community (SPC).
- Period: August 2023–February 2024.
- Location: New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna.
- Partner: Nicolas Guillemot, DEXEN.
Following the success of the aquaculture workshop, the Pacific Community (SPC) once again entrusted NODA Pacifique with the facilitation of a regional technical capitalization workshop under the European Union-funded PROTEGE programme. This five-day intensive workshop focused on coastal fisheries.
Sixteen sessions covered a wide range of topics, including coastal fisheries observatories, stock assessment, climate change challenges, fisheries management strategies, strategic communication between public authorities and fishers, shared priorities, and cooperation among Pacific territories. The workshop was held in Nouméa and brought together participants from New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna.
The technical contributions of fisheries managers from the three territories, together with invited experts, were invaluable. For this assignment, NODA Pacifique worked closely with fisheries expert Nicolas Guillemot of DEXEN.
