Impact assessment of “The Beautiful Canteen” project and scaling-up recommendations.

NODA Pacifique, in consortium with Paradigme and the Institute of Quality, conducted an impact assessment of the “La Belle Cantine” pilot project and developed recommendations for scaling up and institutionalising the concept. The study was commissioned by the Rural Agency, in partnership with the New Caledonia Health and Social Agency (ASS-NC) and the French Development Agency (AFD).

Based on an indicator framework, interviews, and workshops conducted with a wide range of stakeholders (schools, producers, children, parents, technical partners, etc.), the impact of the “La Belle Cantine” pilot project and its scalability potential were assessed. Future scenarios were developed and reviewed by the study steering committee.

A mapping of school catering supply across New Caledonia was also carried out to support decision-making. The type of catering system (on-site kitchen, central kitchen, or satellite restaurant) was identified for each primary and secondary school.

Finally, NODA Pacifique carried out a dissemination phase, including a formal institutional presentation followed by three decentralized feedback workshops held in pilot project schools. This innovative approach brought together a wide range of stakeholders to share the study’s findings and engage actors in implementing the recommendations for scaling up.
